Football Without The Fans Is Nothing : Celtic
The great Jock Stein played his part in changing the face of football. The legendary manager was famously quoted as saying, “football without the fans is nothing” how right he was!
Here at 90 Minute Cynic, we want to reinforce the great mans words and give the games most important people, the fans, their say.
Today we speak to Kerry.
What  team do you support?

Glasgow Celtic Football Club

How  often to you go to watch your team?

Once a month

What’s your first memory of “going  to the football”?

Sitting on the bars in the old standing stadium at Celtic  Park . I was 4 years old and my Dad used to take  me.

What do  you think of entrance prices at football?

Far too expensive.

What’s  your average spend on match days?

£20 – Up to £60 including the  ticket.

Do you  buy club merchandise from official club outlets if not why not?

Do you  think your club could be doing more to “connect” with fans?

No. I think they  do a lot with the fans – open training sessions  etc.

Are you  in favour of reintroducing standing areas at stadiums?

Yes – in some parts  of the ground.

Do you  play at any level?

Friendly 5 or 7 a side.

If so  what do you think of the cost of playing?

Ok for a one off but when playing weekly costs can add up. £5-£7 per week to play one hour is a  lot.

Do you  or would you consider coaching at any level?

I coach at a school – 12 years – 16 years  females.

If you  could implement one thing for the good of the game what would it be?

More money to smaller  clubs and less to bigger clubs.

Favourite moment following your  team?

Seville Uefa Cup Final.

Favourite football moment not  featuring your team?

United States Women’s Team game V Canada in  Olympics.

If  you could have been at any game in history what would it be?

United States Womens Team game V Canada in  Olympics

The  thing that annoys you most about football?

How women’s football is given next to  no chance to grow and the views that a lot of people have on  it.

What do  you think of the transfer window? Should it stay or should clubs be allowed to  buy at any point of the season?

Womans  football is one of if not the fastest growing sports in the world, why do you  think there’s such a lack of coverage in the UK?

No idea. There are a  large  number of people wanting to watch it and support it. I feel it is a  disgrace how little coverage it is given.

Whats  the best bit of “banter” you’ve heard or seen at a football game?

Gascoigne carding the referee when he had dropped his  cards.

What  makes your club so special?

The fans. If you have ever watched Celtic play or been to a  game, you will understand.

Anything  else you want to say?

I would love to see women’s football grow to a good level in the  UK. I follow a lot of women’s football in USA and it is night and day  when you compare how popular it is there to here. Scotland’s women’s  team has a higher FIFA ranking than the men’s team and have gone further in  all tournaments than the men have, yet we see no coverage of the games.  England women played in the final of the Cyprus cup earlier this year against the  Olympic bronze medallists, Canada, and won, but yet we had no coverage. At the  same time USA were playing Germany in the Algarve cup final and again no  coverage. I looked through all the sports channels on Sky, and everything that  was shown was: men’s cricket, men’s cross country skiing, men’s wrestling, men’s  snooker and a repeat of men’s football. This is the reason why women’s football  is not as popular as it should  be.

Living proof that Thomas Jefferson was wrong when he said “all men are created equal” although considering Thomas Jefferson also said an African nation would win the World Cup before the year 2000 why should anyone listen to him? Bryan has a passion for Celtic, a love of football and a tendency to make completely absurd statements in such a way that you might actually agree with them. Follow on twitter @bryanmcmanus
