The essence of 90Minute Cynic will always be a group of mates sitting around talking about football. The definition of what we are will always be as simple as that. That’s not to say we don’t have plans or ambitions.
We’ll always be about Celtic first. Our hearts are full for the football club. But we also want to look outwards with clear and inquisitive eyes.
A home for Celtic fans who are also passionate about the wider football world. The Celtic choice for those who don’t support the club but who appreciate a fervent and humorous discussion about it.
Then you have the most fanatic demographic of all; the biscuits and hair chat devotees. We are them. They are us.
2016 has seen our podcast evolve; after leaving our friends at HailHailMedia we now stand on our own with a bigger rotation of regular Cynics and more guests from both the Celtic twitter world and sport media. We broke into the Top 10 on the iTunes podcast charts and have more downloads than ever before.
Our Twitter account is growing with much more regular content, including more game footage, video diaries, terrible photo shopping and numerous pictures of Stuart Armstrong’s hair.
Now we turn to our website. Keeping a site regularly and properly updated requires a lot more time and resources than what everyday life allows us. But we still want to tell you stories about Celtic and about all the other football out there.
Stories about the past, about the numbers that predict the future. About why vertical pressing is so important, about what it’s like to be the left-back in the village reserve team. About foreign leagues, the Scottish league and about the people that make up Celtic football club.
So we’ve asked some of our favourite writers – some old Cynic stalwarts, others brand new – to write about Celtic and everything else over a range of categories; columns, history pieces, sport data analytics, features, interviews, tactical analyses and much more.
Then we’ll make the articles – around 15 in the first edition – available all at once on our website in a mass release called The Supplement, which we’ll bring to you every other month.
The hope is to eventually make The Supplement into a proper magazine, a new digital Scottish football periodical with a Celtic heart and international eyes.
For now, it’s all about the content rather than the presentation.
You’ll get Celtic and the world, numbers and emotion, history and the future. We think you’ll like it.
(The first edition of The Supplement will be released on 30th December. If you want to contribute to further editions, we’d love to hear from you. For this and any other enquiries, please email us here: the90MCwebsite@outlook.com)
