Another of our ‘Celtic Transfer Target’ series this time focusing on the Austrian Bundesliga. Football Radar writer Tim Armitage gives us the lowdown on potential targets for Celtic.
Position: Right Back
Club: Rapid Vienna
Full Turkish international. He has come through the Rapid Vienna academy and was originally used as a centre-back but in 2018/19 has spent the majority of his minutes as a right-back. Strong in the air and has decent pace. Positioning and strength needs to improve, however.
Position: Defensive Midfield
Currently on loan at Hartberg from Salzburg but has suffered an ACL injury. However, for his age and general lack of experience, he has developed a vast amount in the first few months of 2018/19. Strong, quick with Yaya Toure-like physique. One for the future, but he has a huge potential.
Club: Sturm Graz
Maresic is not having the best of season with Sturm Graz, but has been in the first team since the age of 16 and has long been linked with bigger sides in Germany and England. One of the brightest defensive talents in the league with a sweet left foot. He may not reach the heights of his idol Sergio Ramos, but he has a very high potential ceiling.
Club: Austria Vienna
Pentz is small in stature but is one of the best shot stoppers in Austria. He has come through the Austria Vienna academy and has developed a style of play where he is comfortable with the ball at his feet and will often look to play the ball out to his defenders.
Position: Attacking Midfield/Wing/Striker
Minamino has a fantastic goalscoring record with Salzburg (52 in 157 games) but has generally been used as a rotation player. He only signed a new contract with the club until 2021 in February 2018, but he showed once again in the Europa League that he is a strong player at that level. Could be one of the few stars in the Salzburg team that would be interested in a move to Celtic and that they could also afford.
