Celtic Transfer Success And Failure

Stat Attack: Celtic Transfer Success and Failure

With the sale of Fraser Forster to Southampton for £10 million and the club’s poor performance in the Champions League Qualifiers  Celtic’s current transfer policy has come under scrutiny from the green and white faithful.  Cynic Bryan McManus gave his opinion here, and plenty of fans have been taking to social media to vent there frustrations. The sale of Forster means that since season 10/11  the club have sold players to the approximate value of £61 million whilst bringing in players to the tune of £28million. Whilst we can expect some further acquisitions this summer that leaves the club making approximately double what they are spending on transfers.

Some will say that shows the board aren’t willing to spend enough, whilst others will hold up those figures as proof that the model of developing and selling on players has been successful. However you choose to see it, it shows a number of well made purchases. Below we look at some of the profitable and not so profitable transfers made by the Hoops in recent seasons.

Graphics show the amount the player was purchased for in red, amount sold for in green, the club and league logo from which the players were bought and their national Flag.

All Transfer figures sourced from www.transfermarkt.co.uk with the exception of Tony Watt purchase.

Celtic fans and Scottish football fans in general need to keep a sense of reality, especially where European competitions are concerned. Certainly have dreams and aspirations to progression but always remember we are playing in a backwater, where revenue from all areas is paltry compared with the big hitters.Unless Celtic move I’m afraid we will remain in the lower echelons of the beautiful game.
