Celtic – Dundee | The Preview

Celtic v. Dundee, Scottish Premiership

When: Saturday 22nd December, 3pm

Where: Celtic Park, Glasgow

Easter. Halloween. Christmas. Celtic and Dundee only face each other at the most eventful times of year. It is unusual, then, that I literally can never remember anything about Dundee or when Celtic face them. I really needed wiki for this one…

It’s been an odd, inconsistent season so far. All the troughs that Celtic have faced this campaign can be remedied by a massive week ahead, starting with this match. A win against Dundee, following on from Wednesday’s dispatching of Motherwell, will be a massive confidence boost ahead of Pittodrie and Ibrox. If Celtic do not win this game, I hope Brendan Rodgers follows in Craig Levein’s footsteps and steals  Christmas. You’re a mean one, Mr L.

I do, however, expect a victory for Celtic despite the fact that most of the defence has decided to get themselves conveniently injured ahead of the big day (but will recover just in time for the bigger matches next week). I can picture the scene now: Kieran Tierney and Mikael Lustig co-ordinating lies to the manager, as they try to squeeze a Santa hat on Boyata’s reluctant, dreadlocked head. Odsonne Edouard pulls a Christmas cracker with Arzani: “What’s blue and dead and tastes like failure?”…

Possible Lineups

CELTIC

Ryan Christie is available after the fastest-healing leg break in history. Dedryck Boyata is still unavailable but is set to return next week. Celtic’s goal woes grow as Odsonne Edouard battles an abductor issue. Let’s hope Celtic can meet the ransom. This means Celtic will have to make do with a makeshift centre-forward. Mikael Lustig is still unavailable, so Anthony Ralston will likely feature again. Talisman and megaphone-operator Kieran Tierney is still out, so Emilio will continue at left-back.

DUNDEE

Calvin Miller cannot feature against his parent club, reducing Dundee’s threat somewhat. Future Celtic fringe player Glen Kamara will likely be drafted in to take his place and shore up the midfield. Kenny Miller will fulfil his “heedless chicken” role with aplomb.

KEY BATTLES

  • Fans Versus Weather: There are always a few thousand that would rather stay at home and watch The Holiday. Cowards! Only the weak hide away from the emotional potency of Love Actually.
  • Celtic Versus Pride: Dundee will be hurting after their midweek thrashing at the hands of the mighty Aberdeen. They will set their stall out to prevent another hammering. Expect a block lower than my present-buying standards.
  • Kenny Miller Versus Literally Everybody in Celtic Colours: Celtic icon Kenny Miller returns to his old stomping ground. Don’t think I need to explain this further.

SCORE PREDICTION

CELTIC 4 DUNDEE 0
